Kayleah WilsonKayleah Wilson

Kayleah was a 12 year old girl from Greeley, Colorado. On March 30, 2010 Kayleah left her home around 3:40 to go to a friend’s house before heading off to a birthday party. Kayleah never made it to either destination. This would be the last time anyone but her killer would see her alive. Kayleah’s body would be found 2 months later on May
20, 2010 by a worker marinating an irrigation ditch. The area had been searched several times but no evidence had turned up. Kayleah’s body was so decomposed that she had to be identified by dental records. No arrests have been made for the death of Kayleah but her death has been ruled a homicide. After Kayleah’s disappearance it was discovered that she had an 18 year old boyfriend that was arrested for having sex with Kayleah but not for her death. It was also discovered that 133 sexual predators lived in the area that Kayleah lived.

Post a comment Kayleah Wilson went missing on March 28 after she left her home 3:40 p.m. to go to a party. She was supposed to stop at a friend's house along the way but never made it. The party was about eight blocks form Kayleah's home; the friends's house was just a couple.

But authorities, who were later joined by the FBI, could find no evidence of foul play at first. In fact, they could find very little evidence at all. They have not disclosed if anything was found near the recovery scene that might help in the investigation.

Kayleah's mother, April Wilson, maintained all along that her daughter was not the kind to run away. And asked why her daughter walked to the party, she noted that most people in the heavily populated area walked wherever they went and that the family didn't even own a car.

It was noted on HLN's "Nancy Grace" shortly after the 12-year-old went missing that 133 sexual predators lived in the area.

"We've got a lot of work to do now," Chief Garner told the Denver Post. He said that there were a wide range of suspects to be interviewed and several investigative avenues to pursue. "We'll be talking to lots of people," he added.

Colorado (ChattahBox) – A body found in an irrigation ditch in Greeley, Colorado has been confirmed to be that of 12-year-old Kayleah Wilson, who went missing several months ago.

Kayleah was last seen alive on March 30, when she left her family’s home to go to a birthday party.

She never made it to the party, and police began searching for the young girl.

But this week a ditch worker made a horrifying discovery when he found a decomposing body and alerted authorities.

Police have now confirmed that the body is that of Kayleah, and that she was murdered.

While the cause of death has been determined, police are refusing to release the information, explaining that it is a key part of the investigation.

It is a tragic end to a horrible case.

Our condolences to Kayleah’s family and friends.

DENVER, Colo.  (CBS/AP) There's a disturbing new revelation in the case of 12-year-old Kayleah Wilson, whose decomposing body was found last week after she'd been missing since March. Police say they have arrested a former boyfriend of the victim, an 18-year-old man, for raping Kayleah.
Greeley, Colo. police said that Robert Laurencio Montoya's arrest for the sexual assault of Kayleah is "separate and distinct" from the murder investigation, but that it did stem from information gathered during the missing persons investigation.
"This arrest culminated an investigation that developed from information that probable cause existed to believe the suspect was involved in a sexual relationship with Kayleah Wilson," Greeley police spokesman Sgt. Joe Tymkowych said.
Tymkowych said the 18-year-old had previously been interviewed and cooperated with their missing person investigation.
Montoya is currently being held on $100,000 bond on two felony charges of sexual assault on a child, and sexual assault on a child as a pattern of abuse.
Kayleah had been missing since March when her body was found Wednesday, May 19 in a ditch in an industrial area about a half-mile from her house, by a worker who was searching the ditch after a heavy rainstorm.
Montoya was arrested that same day, police said.
Two eyewitnesses previously told police they saw Kayleah at the Greeley Mall March 28, about a half-hour after her mother said she left to attend a friend's birthday party. The ditch where Kayleah's body was found is a mile from the mall, so determining whether Kayleah really was at the mall that day will be crucial to determining what happened to her, police said.
On Friday, police said they were examining a "mountain of evidence" and developing a list of people to re-interview about the disappearance and death of the 12-year-old.
Tymkowych said they still had no suspects in the slaying but are looking at a range of individuals who had the time and opportunity to kill Kayleah and don't have good alibis.
Meanwhile Greeley, an agricultural community of about 93,000 people 65 miles north of Denver, continues to grieve over the death of Kayleah.
