Joel or Yoily Englander was a typical 5 year old boy. He lived in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Joel was playing outside when he was hit by a truck driver. It is not known at the time if it was another little boy on a tricycle that darted into the street causing the truck driver to swerve and hit little Joel or if it was Joel that darted into the street on his bike. There are no reports of where his parents were at the time.

WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A family is in mourning in Brooklyn after a truck driver accidentally hit and killed a 5-year old child.

 

The incident happened at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Heyward Street in the Williamsburg section around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

Police say another boy was riding his tricycle between two parked cars when he went into the street. The delivery truck driver hit his brakes and swerved to avoid hitting the child.
In doing so, the driver struck and killed 5-year-old Joel Englender, whom he did not see.

The driver was not charged.

5-year-old Yoily Englander OBM was riding his tricycle on Heyward Street in Williamsburg, a meat delivery truck stuck him and he passed away at the scene.

 

NY Daily News Reports: A 5-year-old boy playing on his Brooklyn street was struck and killed by a meat-delivery truck yesterday, authorities said.

Joel Englender was riding a Big Wheels trike on the sidewalk of Heyward Street in Williamsburg at 5:48 p.m. when he zipped out onto the roadway. He was mowed down by a box truck pulling out of the driveway of a nearby meat factory.

The driver apparently didn't see the boy, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It was a horrible accident. The driver said he never saw the kid,” said a factory employee.

No charges were filed.
